about queeret

Where do the quiet gays go? That’s a question Hannah Gadsby asked, and we’re willing to provide an answer — with quiet, sober, queer events.

queeret is for queer introverts.*

we're creating quiet + sober social spaces for the queer community.

some of our events include
qalm evenings
book qlubs
and other low-key
sober gatherings.

*ambiverts + extroverts are of course welcome

Introversion is more about, how do you respond to stimulation, including social stimulation. Extroverts really crave large amounts of stimulation, whereas introverts feel at their most alive, and most switched on, and most capable when they’re in quieter, more low-key environments.

queeret found its way into the world through a variety of sources — a Netflix special by comedian Hannah Gadsby, my own trials as an introvert living in New York City, and a longing to create alternative spaces for queer people to socialize. the inner life has always been significant for me. i guess you could say diving deep into what it means to be human is what draws me to meaningful conversations and the “big ideas” of life. this weaving together of being queer, introverted, and creating sober spaces where queer people can connect is a mission that continues to tug at my heart and soul.

even though I’m smiling, this is one of the most terrifying experiences to deal with as an introvert – small talk when getting your hair cut (notice the wringing hands…) for the longest time, I fought against what being an introvert was and all the majesty that goes along with it. i thought there was something wrong with me and my craving from alone time. things are a bit different now as I embrace all the facets that are me. in actuality, that’s what drew me to queeret. to not only help create spaces that reflect who we are as a community, but to share our joys and pains as we navigate through life as queer introverts. my name is Luis Rivas – nonprofit professional by trade, dreamer and dragon slayer in my inner world. let’s start conversation and events that matter.
